Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What products can you source?
A. Most things! Some examples of products imported include promotional give-aways (company branding can be arranged), office supplies, manufacturing inputs, baby products, medical supplies, confectionery etc etc.

Q. When do I pay for the goods?
A. Payment is usually required at the time of order. Usually a letter of credit is required or depending on the value of the shipment a 50-75% deposit would be required at the time of order and the balance on arrival of goods.

Q. Who takes the exchange rate risk?
A. Hooper and Lundon Ltd take the exchange rate risk. The client is quoted a New Zealand dollar price, delivered to their premises. So it is almost like a local purchase for them but because Hooper and Lundon are importing them directly for them, the client gets the price
benefit.

Q. How much does the service cost me?
A. There is no cost to you unless the importation goes ahead. All sourcing and quotes are free of charge.

Q. How do Hooper and Lundon Ltd make their money?
A. Hooper and Lundon Ltd add a profit margin to the cost of the goods. So our profit is included in the price quoted to you.

Q. How long will it take to source the product and get a quote?
A. This depends on the product required. Some products which are standard issue and readily available could take a few days, for a more specialised product it could take several weeks.

Q. What is the lead time on production?
A. Lead time for production is approximately 4-8 weeks if the product is not held in stock by the overseas supplier. When we get product details from you, we’ll be able to provide more accurate estimate of time frames.

Q. How long does shipping take?
A. The order can be shipped by sea freight or by air freight. The most appropriate method of delivery will be determined according to the urgency of delivery, cost and weight of the products being sourced. Air freight would usually be used for lower weight or urgently required products and would take about one week. For heavier products or larger orders, sea freight would generally be used. Shipping by sea from Asia would usually take about three weeks.

Q. What are the minimum order quantities?
A. This depends on many factors including product value, type of product, tooling requirements, frequency of purchase etc. It is usually dependent on the overseas supplier’s minimum requirements. Usually you need to be looking at spending at least NZ$10,000 or more per shipment before it is viable for the overseas supplier.

Q. Can you arrange samples for our approval, prior to importation.
A. Samples are always recommended. These can be provided at cost, plus the international courier charge. Note in the majority of cases, if the order is placed then the sample and courier cost will be deducted from the invoice.
